This is a truly unique site at the top of the North Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley. A perfect Easterly aspect and slope catching the morning sun and shaded from the late heat of the day. The soils are lean red clays with ironstone and quartz which produce optimum conditions for dark, savoury fruits and fine, structured tannins. 40% whole bunch in open fermenters, daily foot-treading and hand-plunging for 3 weeks with elevage for 1 year in 50% new 300L barrels, the rest 1 year old.
Colour is deep red. The nose shows aniseed, tar, FruChocs and spicy oak. The fine palate entry has mulberry, cranberry, aniseed and liquorice flowing delicately with Rhone-like spicy, chewy, savoury tannins. Class in spades, no lumps, no bumps, this Brunette should pair well with venison or aged, strong cheeses. Unfined & Unfiltered. Alc 13.9%. Drink 2015-2035. Decant for 1 hour minimum.
