S.C. Pannell Dead End Tempranillo 2018

I’ll just say that this wine’s name is actually ‘by S.C.P. Tempranillo’ but for ease of search I’ve kept with the program. The fruit comes from Sellicks Hill in McLaren Vale, the style is firmly set to drink youngish.

 100 % Tempranillo from the Koomilya & Sellicks Hill vineyards in McLaren Vale. The must was traditionally vinified in small open-top fermenters for 10 days. Aged for seven months in large format French and Hungarian oak vats and puncheons, 20% of which were new. This is highly perfumed, vibrant and complex with sweet black cherries, sarsaparilla, and good hints of exotic spice. A plush, light- to medium-bodied, juicy wine with leafy, dusty tannins on the finish.

The third release of the Dead End Temp, and the most serious to date. A wine of real presence, complexity and depth.

"I live in a dead end street, which is nice.

Dark cherry, a whole lot of five spice, some charred meat lavender, and liquorice. Medium-bodied, meaty but succulent in fruit, with silty tannin, lamb chops rolled in dried herb, balanced acidity, and a savoury finish that combines ripe fruit with black olive and herbs. Chewy. Excellent texture. So nicely done."
